雖然只有三十多幅作品，不過輕鬆地繞一圈，還是可以感受到這些畫家被當時大陸畫家畫派，尤其是法國寫實主義與自然主義等，深刻影響的痕跡。
這些格拉斯哥的男孩們，大部份來自蘇格蘭西部，不過有幾位如Arthur Melville （1855－1904）卻是東蘇格蘭人。
進去這個看似被國家畫廊諸多名畫的光彩掩蓋，有點不見天日差可形容的地下展覽廳，立刻被強烈震悸的就是Arthur Meliville的水彩畫。喜歡旅行的他，在蘇格蘭被認為是一個東方主義色彩的畫家。不過，我和他的相遇，與波斯伊朗，與埃及無關；反而是令人會心微笑的巴黎。
一幅題名為《巴黎街景》的水彩畫，我一看就確定是巴黎。所以看了畫的標題之後，有點中奬了，或說因緣巧合般的開心。咦！果然是巴黎！瞬間與畫家心靈感通，很喜悅。
嗯沒錯，Arthur Melville也曾經在巴黎學過畫。我想我會永遠記得這位格拉斯哥男孩！

運氣真好，網路上可以找到這幅畫。這畫也給我一種巴黎冷空氣的味道。
雖然現在還是夏天，尤其到愛丁堡的這幾天，天氣都很好，我也每天都穿短袖。不過九月來了，還是隱約感到季節正在悄悄變動的不安....

De rien. ce scottish type, Melville, je le connaissais pas, moi non plus.
Et c'était avant hier, le 3 sept je suis allée voir the Glasgow boys. Hier, j'ai vu encore deux super trucs dont les expos de Julie Roberts et de Craigie Aitchinson à la Tolbot Rice Gallery, située dans the old college of the University of Edinburgh....sur ce sujet, je vais écrire qqch.

Gaelic has the same historical importance for Scotland as Breton for Brittany. Thus, it is more or less written on some official points such as the Parliament (Parlamaid na h-Alba) but not widely spoken by the Edinburgh residents, except for some of them originating from the Highland region.
